Reflection: I found this article on the online website for the Journal of Clinical Microbiology. I chose this article because I was curious to find out how African Giant Pouched Rats could diagnose Tuberculosis. That idea sounded so far-fetched that it made me wonder how scientists had ever come up with the idea to do such a thing.
I learned so much from writing this paper. At first, when I printed out the document and was skimming through it, I felt like I would never be able to decipher what everything meant. Throughout the whole document there were many scientific words that I had never heard before and there were tons of pages! Later, as I was looking through the article again, I grabbed a pencil and marked the document up. I would circle, underline, and box key words and phases that I understood. I would write notes on the side of the document to either summarize a section of what I read or write down questions I had so I could look up the answers later. Breaking this assignment up into chunks really helped my analyzing and comprehensive skills. The article that I first thought was so confusing, started making sense. I understood what processes the scientists went through in their experiment and why they were experimenting in the first place. I learned a lot of new scientific terms and I now feel more aware of how scientists can help in the medical field. This assignment was very beneficial to my learning. |
